We produce as much as possible in house. We will sub-contract a specialist process when it is right for the project, but as a rule we prefer to retain control of production by maintaining a team with a wide skills base.
Our team of experienced carpenters provide the bulk of our output, from bespoke showcases to full theatrical scenery. Factory Settings was founded on a passion for making in wood, and our enthusiasm for craftsmanship runs throughout the company. From the carpenters in the workshop, through our drafting team, to the directors. We all started our careers on the bench.
Our in-house metalwork capabilities are a real benefit for our clients. We will not subcontract metalwork unless it is particularly specialist. It's a skill we have honed from our early days, and our capacity continues to expand. We offer mig and tig welding in steel and aluminium, section rolling, and CNC aluminium cutting.
Digital fabrication techniques such as CNC routing and 3D surfacing, 3D printing, and digital graphic printing, allow us to control and organise our output more precisely and efficiently. Allowing us to achieve more - and a better product - within increasingly tight timescales and budgets.
Our digital fabrication services are available on a standalone basis.
Our sister technology company. Working closely alongside the fabrication and construction team, is able to allow seamless integration of an eclectic range of technology. With services from scenic lighting to projection mapping, our team has the broad knowledge of the latest tech and how best to use it.
We install in some of the world's most demanding and sensitive venues. Our highly experienced team, led by a dedicated site manager, will plan and manage the safest, most efficient method of installation. Often within a very tight window!
Everything we make begins with a drawing. Once it was a pencil and paper. Now our CAD draughting department examine, organise, imagine, and innovate to produce full three dimensional drawings for each project. Draughting is the foundation of our production process. It's the space we allow ourselves to apply our creative solutions to the challenge of the design - whilst always retaining the designers vision.
Our background in theatre scenery gives us an experienced approach to large structures. We enjoy the challenge of finding solutions to unusual questions, and relish the opportunity of being the people you call when that impossible project comes along. We have long standing relationships with structural and mechanical engineers across a variety of industries, allowing us to respond with innovative and creative solutions.
Our scenic painter and his team of experienced finishers not only provide the vital final coat - either on site, or in our dedicated finishing shop, but work with our fabricators throughout the process to ensure the end product is always of exceptional quality.
We believe the secret to a successful project is a dedicated Project Manager. Your Project Manager will provide a focal point and contact throughout the whole of our process. They will liaise with the client, draughting team, production, and site crew. They will take the enquiry, cost the work, and oversee the build and installation. Through to sign off and beyond.
Quality management is at the core of our business. We achieved ISO 9001 certification at a relatively early stage, having identified it's potential benefits. We have always found the structure that the standard brings to our processes incredibly helpful. We work to tight deadlines in difficult environments, and it's our systems that help us deliver as much as the team.
We are highly experienced in analysing costs and preparing quotations for our own fabrication projects and installations. Increasingly we are asked to provide cost consultation at the early stage of projects.
We feel having access to our fabrication expertise early on in the process greatly benefits any project, whether we are engaged as the end contractor or not. Two-stage tendering is increasingly popular, and we are always interested in discussing developing projects at scheme design or earlier.
